Our trip to Vietnam is over and I’m glad that we went. It’s probably good to see how other people and cultures live, eat, sleep, play and work. I didn’t see quite all I wanted however some things just didn’t go in our favour what with tummy troubles and a bit of malaise. Sometimes, if you go just one more street or one more mile you might just see something you would not imagine. You might get into a bit of trouble too.

Recommendations:

Best time to go – Ho Chi Minh City, Hoi An, Hue – December. Hanoi, Halong Bay, Sapa – April. We missed out on Sapa due to tummy toubles and a lack of positive planning.

Airline – Vietnam Airlines for good seating, excellent service and reasonably low cost.

Hotels – HCMC – Liberty 6 Hotel – good location, good rooms, excellent service and reasonable cost.

Hoi An – Vinh Hung Resort – excellent service, meals, quiet location about 500m (a pleasant stroll) from the old town.

Hanoi – not part of our experience.

Its hard to believe but we’ve been in Vietnam for almost 2 weeks. We spent four days in Saigon, 6 days in Hoi An and the rest we’ve been in and around Hanoi. We’ve been to Marble Mountain, Danang, Hue and Halong Bay. We were to have gone to Sapa this Friday night but both Phil and Pete have either food poisoning or a tummy wog. We started a day tour of Hanoi this morning but Pete was feeling so bad he had to call it quits after two hours. The day trip took us to visit Uncle Ho in his mausoleum, the Presedential Palace, Ho’s museum, the Museum of Ethnology, The Museum of Literature, West Lake and some pagoda there, Hoan Kiem Lake and to finish it off we had a cyclo ride around the Old Town. The cyclo ride wasn’t too bad after the first five minutes.
